Ha ha I love the idea of the 'citizen ticket!' The same homeowners on Queens Avenue in the block between 7th and 6th failed to clear their walks during this week's snowstorm (with the exception of one, the same one who'd shovelled during the longer #snowmageddon we'd experienced in December/January). I'm either going to report them to the city the next time it happens or take a cue from you and leave 'em tickets. I understand they have underground parking attached to their townhouses and probably enter and exit their homes from the back rather than the front most of the time, but that's not the point. Pedestrians continue to walk down the middle of the roadway when the snow isn't cleared from the sidewalks, and aside from the inconvenience of trying to drive behind a pedestrian, it's just not safe!

Spot on - I found your blog looking for that interview with Derek Corrigan. I also live in New West and on my daily attempts to walk around my neighbourhood with my two little boys I left many notes about sidewalk clearing on peoples' doors. A lot of the houses / apartment buildings that I "ticketed" had cleared their sidewalks by later the same day.

I also take issue with his assertion that this was *such* an unusual event. I have photographic evidence of significant snowfalls in new west 3 years running. None as big as this year but definitely worth noting.

I finally made it out on Wednesday to deliver and pick up some Christmas presents (I was away from December 21 to 28, so it wasn't all weather, but that's certainly been a factor).

What a mess - not so bad any more in the Hastings-Sunrise area, but by the time I got to area around 1st and Victoria, just east of the drive - OMG - cars that had been snowed in for three weeks, traffic-calmed streets with only two ruts in which you could drive, while praying you didn't meet an oncoming car, snow scraping the car's undercarriage (and I drive a Honda Civic!).
